Annoyingly he can cast the curse items spell - without magic resistance that can be very severe (1d6 items). You can mitigate this with the usual ways of dealing with the spell. Keep in mind that a cursed dwarvish mattock leaves you without the use of your hands. In 3.6.1, consider using a scroll of scare monster, as other melee-range spells he can cast such as drain strength and destroy armor are also particularly undesirable, and Elbereth will vanish if you melee him while standing on it.

The Minion of Huhetotl, &, is the Archeologist quest nemesis.

Strategy

The Minion of Huhetotal is surrounded by various monsters in his temple and capable of summoning more; like all quest nemeses, he is covetous. He can inflict very large amounts of damage due to his two weapon attacks and spellcasting (which includes drain strength and destroy armor), so it's recommended that you teleport to the upstair after angering him and engage him there with a source of magic resistance. In 3.6.0 and later versions, consider using a scroll of scare monster in place of Elbereth for this strategy.

As a demon, he is immune to a wand of death, and his high monster magic resistance lets him easily resist a wand of sleep or polymorph. Wielding a blessed silver saber is very effective, as is a dwarvish mattock - the Minion is a large monster, and the archaeologist can achieve Expert in both the pick-axe and saber skills. However, remember that he can cast the curse items spell; even with magic resistance, a cursed mattock will leave you without the use of your hands.
