A mummy wrapping is a type of makeshift cloak. It may be dropped when you kill any kind of mummy. The main use of a mummy wrapping is to allow yourself to enter shops when you have the invisibility intrinsic (otherwise the shopkeeper will not let you in).
This is probably a reference to the film The Invisible Man, in which the (invisible) man wraps bandages around him to overcome his invisibility.
