A spellbook of clairvoyance provides the clairvoyance divination spell, which magically maps a 19×11 area centered on your location.[1] The spell is blocked if you are wearing a cornuthaum and are not a Wizard. Unlike the clairvoyance provided by aligned priests and some items in NetHack, the clairvoyance spell only maps once per cast and does not persist as a recurring effect. It is the special spell for samurai.
Messages
- You sense a pointy hat on top of your <head>.
- The spell was blocked by a cornuthaum.[2]
Strategy
This spell is a passable alternative to magic mapping. Samurai get a bonus reduction in failure rate for this spell, but will still have a hard time ever casting it since they cannot advance the divination skill and will usually want to wear the best armor available regardless of material. The one major advantage clairvoyance has over magic mapping is that it works on all levels, even special levels where magic mapping is blocked.
