How fast are the various demons typically, can we have a comparison table? I think Orcus has the major advantage that he frees up Asmodeus for bribing, and is easy to reach from the level below. Thus Orcus might be overall faster than Asmodeus, even if Asmodeus "feels" quicker at the actual job. --Tjr 19:25, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

But Orcus is also a high-level spellcaster - it seems like getting rid of all the nasties he will invariably summon probably would add a fair bit of time, if only because they could block your way. Not to mention the constant need for Elbereth/scare monster to prevent item cursing and psi bolts. And since I'm guessing most speedrunning characters don't have great AC, it seems some of the nasties could be a real threat.

As for how fast the various demons are, that should directly correlate to their average damage output, accounting for the high priest's AC (which should be around 3 or 4 at the lowest). Yeenoghu should be a little faster than Asmodeus, although getting him requires either luck dancing with chaotic demons or same-race sacrifice (a bad idea for non-chaotics, of course). -Ion frigate 20:27, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

I've had pretty good experience with Orcus. I would leave his level alone until it's invocation time. Then I'd come up from below, immediately levelport and teleport to the vibrating square, do the invocation if necessary, and go down. That means either 3 or 7 turns of exposure until he's in the Sanctum. I can live with his summons in that time frame, given I'm running away from the crowd anyway. Inside the Sanctum, he's always zoomed to the High Priest right away. I wonder if that's a glitch or reliable.

When he comes back with the Amulet, I stand on the stairs up, on Elbereth, as a master mind flayer. Orcus rarely puts up much of a fight then. Again, I might have been lucky. --Tjr 22:30, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
