Engraving with the wand only identifies it if these things are present; otherwise it gives no message.
The wand of secret door detection is most often used for finding the hidden entrance to the temple in Moloch's Sanctum.

Wands comprise 4% of all randomly-generated items in the main dungeon, 6% in containers, 5% on the Rogue level, and 8% in hell. There is a 5% chance that a randomly-generated wand will be a wand of secret door detection.
