The god Arioch plays a minor role in NetHack When chaotic players are crowned, they receive the title "Glory of Arioch". This title shows up as one of the character's properties seen through enlightenment.

This is the only time Arioch is mentioned in the game. He is not one of the regular aligned gods, so you will not find altars dedicated to Arioch, or be able to pray to him.

Origin

The name originally appears in the Bible within the Book of Genesis as the name of the "King of Ellasar", who participated in the Battle of the Vale of Siddim. In the Elric series by English author Michael Moorcock, Arioch is the Chaos Lord served by Elric of Melniboné. Elric is also the possessor of Stormbringer, so it seems fitting that this weapon should be linked to the title "Glory of Arioch".

Encyclopedia entry

Arioch, the patron demon of Elric's ancestors; one of the most
powerful of all the Dukes of Hell, who was called Knight of

and many more names besides.
