Over the years, NetHack has added many features, but also removed some. These defunct features are listed below.
List of defunct monsters
- osquip -- in NetHack 3.0.0 through 3.0.6.
- the Three Stooges -- in NetHack 2.3e only.
- the mad scientist -- in NetHack 3.0.0 through 3.0.6.
- unarmored soldier -- in NetHack 3.0.0 through 3.1.3.
- Elf Quest inhabitants: Earendil, Elwing, High-elf, and the Goblin King -- in NetHack 3.1.0 through 3.2.3.
List of defunct objects
- The Palantir of Westernesse -- in NetHack 3.1.0 through 3.2.3.
- dead lizard -- occurs as a random object in Hack 1.0 through NetHack 3.0.5; obtained thereafter by killing a lizard.
- badge -- in NetHack 2.3e only.
- elfin chain mail -- in NetHack 1.3d through 2.3e. More or less equivalent to the elven mithril-coat.
- spellbook of genocide -- in NetHack 1.3d through 3.0.10.
- pair of gloves -- in Hack 1.0 through NetHack 2.3e. More or less equivalent to the pair of leather gloves.
