生成
随机生成的护身符有13.5%的概率是窒息护身符。此护身符生成时有90.5%的概率为被诅咒的，9%的概率为未诅咒的，0.5%的概率为受祝福的。

描述
佩戴时，窒息护身符会立刻对玩家施加勒颈特质：玩家会在6回合后因窒息而死[1][2]。在持有此特质期间，玩家的力量会被损害，且无法饮用任何东西，无法使用口哨或其他气鸣乐器，若失明则无法阅读卷轴，也无法施放法术[3][4][5]。如果玩家变形为没有头，或者同时具有无呼吸和无心智的形态，则能够免疫该特质的效果。
窒息护身符会在佩戴时自动鉴定。
摘下窒息护身符会立即移除勒颈特质。如果玩家在持有勒颈特质时成功执行了一次祈祷，特质的死亡倒计时会在祈祷的无敌时间内暂停[6]。佩戴窒息护身符属于大麻烦，若此时祈祷成功，则护身符会被摧毁。在调试模式下，如果你在被此护身符杀死时选择不死亡，护身符会消失[7]。
食用窒息护身符有95%的概率使得玩家直接被噎死，除非玩家拥有无呼吸特质。锈怪不会主动食用窒息护身符[8]。
策略
窒息护身符很危险，因此不要随意佩戴BUC未知的护身符。如果它被诅咒，你可以通过祈祷（只要你能安全祈祷）来摧毁它。如果你得到了一枚非诅咒的窒息护身符，你可以轻易地鉴定和移除它。被护身符勒住时你不能施放法术，所以不要依赖解除诅咒法术拯救自己。
如果它是被诅咒的，且你有取消魔杖，你可以对自己挥魔杖来解除护身符的诅咒。这也会影响到你背包里的其他物品，所以若有时间的话，先丢弃背包里的其他东西再挥魔杖。
历史
窒息护身符最初于NetHack 3.0.0加入游戏。
在NetHack 3.4.3及其衍生游戏中，玩家在戴上此护身符时无论变成何种形态都会受到勒颈影响，无呼吸可以让你避免在吃护身符时噎死，但不会在你佩戴它时保护你。
自NetHack 3.6.1开始，佩戴窒息护身符时不能施放法术。

SLASH'EM
In SLASH'EM, a cursed amulet of strangulation named life saving is generated in The Chamber of Junk within the Lawful Quest at level creation.
Gaining invulnerability from a potion of invulnerability does not prevent death from an amulet of strangulation.
dNetHack
In dNetHack, incantifiers can "eat" an amulet of strangulation without consequence, since they are incorporeal and absorbing the magic from the amulet rather than physically consuming it. Eating the amulet in any other form will not instantly kill you, but instead causes temporary strangulation for six turns - due to dNetHack's breath timer mechanic, this means that you will die if your current timer is six turns or lower, unless the property is removed. Successfully praying can cure strangulation from choking this way, while obtaining the breathless property (e.g. via an unbreathing polyform) ignores strangulation and allows it to time out harmlessly.
The Wizard of Yendor has a unique spell that forces an amulet of strangulation onto your neck, transforming any currently worn amulet into one if possible. If you are wearing an amulet, the spell can be prevented with magic resistance.
The November NetHack Tournament
In The November NetHack Tournament, the amulet of strangulation is ineligible to be placed in the swap chest.
SlashTHEM
In SlashTHEM, in addition to SLASH'EM details, an amulet of strangulation is generated at one of six particular squares on the locate level of the Geek quest.
