Historical uses
From Hack 1.0 to NetHack 2.3e, killer bees used the k glyph, and kobolds used the K glyph. In NetHack 3.0.0, new types of kobold were introduced, and all kobolds were moved to the k glyph, while killer bees were moved to the a glyph.
