The dollar sign $ refers to gold, zorkmids!
- In the dungeon, $ is a pile of gold.
- A zorkmid is equivalent to a single gold piece. In general, the game calls them gold pieces when referring to them as an item, and zorkmids when referring to transactions with other characters in the dungeon.
- Press $ to count the gold in your purse and the debit or credit you have with the shopkeeper. Counting is instantaneous, as your character has either memorised the amount, or somehow knows how to count gold speedily. In any case, the count is always the same as the one on the status line. The count does not include any money which you hid in containers such as a bag.
- Press $ to select gold in a menu. Supported by tty and curses interfaces, see menu controls.
