Forum:HP keeps dropping
Level 17 Wizard in Gehennom. For some reason my HPs continue to drop. I am not poisoned and a unicorn horn has no effect. Level remains constant. Any ideas to the cause and or cure sure would be appreciated. An Elven Wizard named Hmm.70.193.68.5 19:07, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Weird... All I can think of that would cause that is being polymorphed into a sea monster outside of water or being severely overburdened (both steadily decrease your health). You're playing vanilla Nethack, I assume? BellisColdwine (talk) 03:21, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe it's an invisible monster?
For clarification, it is max HP that continues to drop. Was in upper 90s and now in 60s. This is Vulture-Nethack on top of vanilla version 3.4.3-14. The character is currently stressed. My best recollection is that max hp drops during a fight and does not return. I did have a nasty and prolonged battle with an Arch-lich. Hmm...````
- Do you have fire resistance? Fire traps lower your maxhp if not, and they're common in Gehennom. Wooble (talk) 15:47, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
- It's a combination of fire traps lowering your maximum health and your character being overburdened. If I recall correctly, being overloaded or overtaxed saps your health constantly, whereas being strained or stressed prevents your HP from regenerating over time. I suggest you shed your excess equipment, retreat from Gehennom for now and do two things in the main dungeon: Get yourself fire resistance and use a cursed scroll of genocide or two to nurse dance in Sokoban. That should fix the damage that's been done and let you move through Gehennom more safely. Remember, unless you're bringing a corpse to a nearby altar or something it's NEVER worth being burdened.
