Forum:Role Difficulty in 3.7.0

Hi! Now that 3.7.0 has significantly nerfed Valkyries (no longer starting with a long sword, Excalibur is much harder to get, etc.), I'm wondering whether dwarven valk can still be considered the "strongest" role, especially for beginners?

Arguments against:

- Snickersnee was buffed significantly with a polearm-like attack that gets a free turn.

- Meanwhile Mjollnir is pretty nice in terms of damage, but the noise and the inventory damage are significant problems.

- Wizards now have a guaranteed starting magic marker! Spellcasting changes also may work in their favor, e.g., with the addition of chain lightning. The unihorn nerf also works as a spellcaster buff.

Arguments for:

- Mjollnir is still capable of being an ascension-level artifact. And the Orb of Weight is still extremely good, plus its crystal ball function was buffed which may save on mapping/gold detection.

- Meanwhile Murasama and Ahriman are crap.

- Since poison is no longer an instadeath, the opinion that barbarians may be better for beginners is weaker.

I think there are many many more potential aspects. Does anyone have plans to write up a role difficulty 3.7.0 page? Perhaps also discuss here? Loresend (talk) 06:49, 31 December 2025 (UTC)
