You are blinded by the flash! The bolt of lightning bounces! The death ray hits it. It kicks! Something casts a spell at you! You are frozen in place! It hits! You die..."

Mid-Level Orcish Ranger doing a take over of the Minetown altar. Zapped the priest with a wand of death. Needless to say, that was the end of the game. I had over a hundred hit point for god's sake. What the hell killed me?

The short answer is that you have answered your own question. Gods don't like it when you attack their priests. They hit you with lightning. The lightning fried your wand and your ring, and blinded you. Your own death ray hit some unidentified creature. What kicked you, cast the spell, and froze you was the priest.--Ray Chason 17:41, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

To elaborate, the priest had a cloak of magic resistance (1/21 chance), and so your death ray didn't work. Next time, try killing the priest from outside the temple. Priests don't leave their temples, and as a Ranger you should have a ranged weapon available. --Darth l33t 18:44, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

... from outside the temple, hitting the priest with a bounce, such that the altar is not in sight (the lightning comes from there). Or boulder the priest up and let him live. -Tjr 19:15, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
