I wonder....

The introduction contains the word "automagically". I wonder if this is a typo or a pun.

The word "automagically" has existed for a while (see the Jargon File entry), so I presume the use is deliberate. -- Killian 10:11, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

which monster?

Editors seem to disagree which is the best monster for the jelly-and-boulder fort. Clearly, it should be sessile (CPU usage) and amorphous (to survive the scroll of earth).

  • spotted jellies have the most hit points of all candidates, for when you inevitably whack them accidentally.
  • blue jellies won't damage an intrinsically-resistant player, have the second-most hit points, and are compatible with cone of cold. Popular choice.
  • brown mold -- why?

All of these will divide if they deal enough passive damage, including to other monsters under conflict. --Tjr 20:28, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Spotted jellies don't divide. That's part of the cold passive attack, while spotted use acid.
As for brown mold, I cannot fathom a reason why they would be preferable. Jellies are amorphous and have more hit points. Any other advantage of a brown mold should also belong to the blue jelly. -- Qazmlpok 21:17, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Brown molds will deal less overall damage to you when you divide them, meaning the process can be completed faster. 220.255.1.24 07:52, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
If you're ready to pull this off, you've surely had a few thousand spare turns to get a spellbook of healing. --Tjr 11:03, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
A spellbook of healing, and a ring of regneration, I imagine. Still, it's a valid point that with the blue jellies, you'd need to cast healing more than once per divide, while for the molds, it would be less than once per divide. Even if you have 20 constitution and 23 INT&WIS, if you don't have the Eye you could run out of energy pretty quickly with the jellies. Perhaps another worthwhile question is whether you'd rather play the game without cold resistance or without fire resistance. or maybe you get both, and then get a gremlin to steal a resistance? in which case you'd probably decide based on which resistance you lost first. Incidentally, I think it takes slightly fewer hits to divide a blue jelly: the 1HP of damage per hit is more significant to the mold than the jelly. Derekt75 21:32, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
A scroll of earth isn't necessary at all. 220.255.1.75 15:32, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
If you block all tiles, then it's not necessary. Otherwise, a boulder fort protects you against ranged attacks. --Tjr 18:50, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

xp 17

The most recent edit removed the requirement XP<=17, which prevents huge prayer timeouts. Is this an error? --Tjr (talk) 06:13, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

No. Even if one's experience level is 19 (the highest it can be while satisfying the other conditions), the maximum prayer timeout is 4197 – well under 8500. --220.255.1.95 13:58, 13 October 2013 (UTC)
