History

wikia/fandom sites

2005: there was a wiki named gameinfo.wikia.com . We made an interwiki prefix for gameinfo. And we made a template for gameinfo (two templates actually). Template:gameinfo was like template:wikipedia : it made a little box on the right with a gameinfo PNG and a caption that gameinfo has an article on the subject.

2007: gameinfo.wikia.com moved to egamia.wikia.com.

2016: all of wikia.com moved to fandom.com, so the site became egamia.fandom.com.

date unknown: egamia.fandom.com moved to gamicus.fandom.com.

As of June 21, 2024, gamicus.fandom.com had 42,444 pages.

Our templates

We had two templates, Template:gameinfo and Template:gameinfo2. Template:gameinfo2 had comments that it existed because variable-argument templates were not supported in the version of MediaWiki that we had at the time. There were no uses of Template:gameinfo2 so it was easy to delete.

Template:gameinfo displayed a little box on the right of the page that said "Gameinfo has an article about xxx", illustrated with a PNG of the gameinfo logo. Clicking on the link took the reader to gameinfo.wikia.com.

Time passed. The gameinfo wiki moved at least three times. As of June 2024, Template:gameinfo was still named Template:gameinfo, but now it displayed a little box that said "Encyclopedia Gamia has an article about xxx", illustrated with a PNG of the gameinfo log. Clicking on the link took the reader to gamicus.fandom.com. This was confusing.

Both templates have been deleted.

Our interwiki link

We also have an interwiki link for gameinfo. It still points to the defunct gameinfo.wikia.com. There are several uses on talk pages and archived community pages.

Cleanup

In June 2024, Furey (the author of this history), found the articles using Template:gameinfo and changed all of them to use direct https links to gamicus.fandom.com. Each affected article already had a list of external links, and now there is one more link such as "Codex Gamicus article for SLASH'EM". The little boxes went away.

https://nethackwiki.com/index.php?search=gamicus , the usual search function, shows articles with gamicus links.
