The problem

https://nethackwiki.com/index.php?title=Special:BrokenRedirects&limit=5000&offset=0 2307 entries Most or all of them look like:

  • Source:Ref/343/use candle (edit) → Source:NetHack 3.4.3/src/apply.c.c#use candle
  • Source:Ref/343/snuff candle (edit) → Source:NetHack 3.4.3/src/apply.c.c#snuff candle
  • Source:Ref/343/snuff lit (edit) → Source:NetHack 3.4.3/src/apply.c.c#snuff lit
  • ...

Note the filename of "apply.c.c". These redirect pages are not usable.

It looks like DizzyBot created these pages in May 2018.

How it hurts

Makes Special:BrokenRedirects unusable. We can't see anything with 2000+ noisy lines in the results.

More subtly, encourages people (both readers and maintainers) to believe that BrokenRedirects are not important and that we don't fix them.

Doesn't seem to have caused any direct problems in 6 years, though. We can wait a while for a fix.

How to fix them

Need either a bot runner (are there any active bot runners on NethackWiki) or an admin to do a mass action.

What action? We could delete them. Or we could edit them and change "apply.c.c" to "apply.c".

Action taken

Ion Frigate prepared a list of 2,307 article titles. dtype ran a batch deletion script. Furey checked the visible logs from the user side. 2,307 articles deleted.

... done!
