Reference | SLASH'EM_0.0.7E7F2/monst.c#line596 |
A blinking eye, e, is a type of monster that appears in SLASH'EM, SpliceHack, SlashTHEM, and Hack'EM. The blinking eye is a type of eye creature that is mindless and can be seen via infravision.
A blinking eye has a gaze attack that teleports targets to a random spot on the level.
A hero polymorphed into a blinking eye can use the #monster extended command to target its gaze at other monsters, which costs 20 power.
Eating a blinking eye corpse or tin has a 4⁄5 chance of granting teleportitis.
Generation
Randomly generated blinking eyes are always created hostile, and will not be normally created in Gehennom.
Description
Similar to dealing with floating eyes, blinding yourself can protect from the blinking eye and make them a non-issue to fight—without a means to blind yourself or the eye, its constant teleportation can become a major annoyance. In SpliceHack, its speed is lowered to 4 as opposed to being 12 in other variants, making them much more tolerable to attempt approaching. Teleport control can also make the blinking eye's gaze a non-issue, and can even turn it into an advantage if dealing with a large group of monsters that has a blinking eye among them.
