The bugbear, h, is a monster in NetHack. They are usually encountered in throne rooms and are not usually a significant threat. In addition, lycanthropes will encounter them upon return to human form.

Bugbears are relatives of goblins, although they tend to be
larger and more hairy. They are aggressive carnivores and
sometimes kill just for the treasure their victims may be
carrying.
