A chest is a container item found scattered in the dungeon. Chests often hold other items, but some are generated empty.
A few chests are unlocked, but many are generated locked. To unlock a chest, you can:
- Apply some unlocking tool to it.
- Zap a wand of opening at it.
- Kick it. Because this often destroys some of the items (e.g. potions) inside, it's not the best method.
- #Force the lock with a weapon, either by prying or by smashing the lock. Prying with an edged weapon (such as a dagger) is a better method, as it will do no harm to the chest or its contents. However, it may break your weapon, so do not pry with your only or best weapon! Smashing the box with a blunt weapon (such as a mace) may destroy the whole container including its contents. Smashing the box therefore should generally seen as a last resort method.
