The rules for wishing for artifacts in dNethack differ from Vanilla nethack. Rather than counting the number of artifacts that already exist the player gains the ability to wish for an artifact based on three events.

The player must still gain a wish in the normal means of doing so.

Each of the methods is distinct and can potentially be gained in any order.

Ability to Wish For An Artifact

  • One artifact may be wished for upon attaining level 7.
  • Sitting on the throne inside the "Castle" allows wishing for an artifact.
  • Hitting each of the 5 "Unaligned Priests" inside the "Lost Cities" with a different artifact and then allowing the priest to pull the artifact from you. This removes that artifact from the game. If you use an artifact that was given to you from your god then this will anger your god.
