Disintegration resistance is very useful, simply for preventing instadeaths. The disintegration resistance may be acquired by eating a black (100% chance) or chromatic (~17% chance) dragon corpse and is accompanied by the message "You feel very firm" or "You feel totally together, man" if you are hallucinating. It simply protects you against the disintegration attack of black dragons and the wide-angle disintegration beam of angry gods. The wide-angle beams used by gods will still disintegrate armor.
