Forum:Lava on level 10?

OK, I'd be embarrassed to say how many separate games of Nethack I've played.

But since I updated to the most recent versions some months back very very very occasionally I find something I've never seen before.

Today Level 10 turned out to be an island surrounded by water with a big pool of lava in the middle.

Are these things just very unlikely, randomly generated, or is Nethack somehow updating itself?
