She's like a really strong warhorse for the most part. There is an error generated...
Playing on a local windows machine and I don't know how to drop GTK into wizard mode, so I got her "savescummed" as a tame, fast cockatrice. Ran through it twice so far. First, to see if it worked, and a second time, to repolymorph her into an intelligent monster so she'd take a cornuthaum and an amulet. Got an error the first time. Something about creating and icon for a steed. Is "unusual saddle" a actual term? I'm trying to recreate it to post it verbatim. The second time worked almost without a hitch at least no error. The cornuthaum fell off and I learned pets wont use an amulet of flying. She already has reflection so an amulet of lifesaving would be the only valid item left, almost a must since she doesn't leave a corpse.--67.168.228.21 14:21, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

:Here's the error(from the third try). It seems to happen every action. Spending a whole turn searching will generate two or three errors, while a move will generate one.

... whenever Nightmare would normally perform and action but can't due to being ridden.
:It seems as if I'm talking to myself but hey the info's here if anyone wants it. I've gotten Nightmare to work twice w/o any errors. Still stable after saving the game and dismounting and remounting her. In both cases she was repolymorphed into a kobold warrior(what are the odds?), she was wearing an amulet of life saving, a cornuthaum, and some form of body armor (shirt, armor, or cloak) that she broke out of when polymorphing back to her original form. I wish I knew how to code.--67.168.228.21 03:12, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Examples: If there is a coveted item on the current level and she's being ridden, the error will be generated because she can't teleport to it. If her hit points are below full, and there isn't a coveted item in your backpack, the error will be generated because she can't teleport to the upstairs. This error isn't generated while you are carrying any coveted items, assuming because she is already where she want to be, with you and your item.

So the last level on the wizard quest went something like this. Rode her down the stairs. Error (coveted item on the level). I dismounted her and she was gone before I hit the ground. Casted detect monster, and she was standing next to the dark one. I stepped onto the upstairs, and the dark one teleported next to me all bruised and bloodied. Nightmare also teleported back with the Eye of the Aethiopica. She dropped the amulet and finished the Dark One off in the next action before I could do anything else. So I was standing there on the upstairs with both the Eye of the Aethiopica and the Bell of Opening at my feet within three actions. I'd say that was effective.--67.168.228.21 00:46, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Status of the saddled Nightmare (lawful): Level 12 HP 24(24) Pw 78(78) AC -2, tame, fast, carrying you.

Just had to see if it could be done. Next, time to see if I can put One Eyed Sam to work for me.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.168.228.21 (talkcontribs)

You can't, as shopkeepers can never be tamed even after being polymorphed.
