One of the founding members of the NetHack [[DevTeam]] was [[Izchak Miller]]. Professor Miller sadly on the 1st of April 1994 at the age of 58, from complications due to cancer. The DevTeam put Izchak the shopkeeper into the game as a tribute, inspired partly by his sterling work on the shopkeeper code. It is considered extremely bad form in the community to kill, injure, or steal from this particular shopkeeper, even though the others are commonly badmouthed and murdered at every available opportunity. Mine Town is guaranteed to contain a lighting store, the only one in the dungeon, run by a special shopkeeper named Izchak. Izchak has a slightly different conversational repertoire to other shopkeepers, but is otherwise identical for game purposes.
