Luck is the property of a player character that affects many events involving chance. There are many ways to change your luck, to become either more or less lucky. http://www.steelypips.org/nethack/343/gems-343.html#luck
Luck has a part in:
- finding hidden doors and traps
- receiving a favorable response from prayer (and range of possible favors: http://www.steelypips.org/nethack/pray.html#p4)
- getting certain outcomes from sitting on thrones
- getting certain outcomes from quaffing from sinks and fountains
- success of blessed identify scrolls
