SpliceHack has a number of new roles and races, in addition to the options available in vanilla.

New Roles

  • Dragonmaster: Dragonmasters are a melee role with a focus on pets. Dragonmasters begin the game with a saddled baby red dragon, and all chromatic dragons are treated as domestic for them (meaning they can be tamed, among other things). A Dragonmaster's dragons can attempt to burn slime off of them, awaken them if they fall asleep, and help them get unstuck. Standing next to a pet dragon will allow a dragonmaster to regenerate energy. Dragonmasters may struggle in the late game due to a frustrating quest and an inability to wear dragon scales and scale mail.
  • Cartomancer: Cartomancers are a magic-based role that focuses on using scrolls (otherwise known as spell cards). Every time they read a scroll, there is a chance that the scroll is not used up and can be read again. Using magic markers will cause alignment penalties for "forging cards." This role is extremely difficult, similar to the difficulty of playing a tourist. They do start the game with a large supply of shuriken, however.
  • Pirate: Pirates are from the pirate patch. More information about them can be found on the pirate page. They are a relatively strong role in SpliceHack, given the large number of artifacts that can be found and the potential advantages of polypiling using their quest artfiact.
