The scroll of scare monster causes monsters in your visual range to flee, though some may resist. When dropped on a square, monsters treat that square as if Elbereth were written on it. A blessed scroll will become uncursed when picked up, and an uncursed scroll will Disintegrate if you pick it up having previously picked it up when uncursed. A cursed scroll always disintegrates when picked up.
