Monster detection?
I don't think skilled monster detection is a good substitute for telepathy in a foodless game unless you're a Wizard, since casting spells costs nutrition for a non-Wizard. djao 07:04, July 3, 2010 (UTC)

Trap evasion
If you ride a dragon, do you miss all those obnoxious fire traps, or is it just trap doors, holes, pits? If yes, that could double for fire resistance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by tjr (talk • contribs)
- No. You still take full damage. I assume this is for a multi-conduct game? Is it possible to obtain and wield Fire Brand for the fire resistance? Or you could play as a Priest for the Mitre, or a Tourist + crystal ball to detect the traps. -- Qazmlpok 22:21, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I was thinking of Gehennom in a 12-conduct game without bones stuffing (i.e. keeping all tracked conducts). After some discussion on RGRN, I settled on wizards for the starting equipment. Most ways to handle fire traps have some drawbacks:
- Alchemize huge amounts of hit points, and shrug off the loss in max HP. Few monsters have a melee fire attack.
- The Mitre requires finding post-quest priest bones and also a helm of opposite alignment.
- Fire Brand, if found on the floor, is still a risk to pacifist & weaponless conducts.
- A ring of fire resistance, if found on the floor, competes with slow digestion, teleportation, shape changers, searching, free action, situational resistances, and a lot of other things.
- Red dragon scales are available at a throne, but compete with green and silver ones.
- 2% of all elvenkings carry a crystal ball, and spellcasters can summon them beyond extinction.
- As for now, solution number one looks the most feasible. Tjr 23:05, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
