S1G is a player on nethack.alt.org known for attempting to intentionally leave amusing and abusive bones files in public servers. Stumbling upon his grave or ghost is considered a sign of impending doom for many players. However, some do take his malevolent experiments in good humor.

S1G's escapades have increased awareness of the possibilty of griefing other players on public servers and generated debate regarding the possibility of blocking the use of bones files from specific players on the server. At the moment, players may only elect not to use bones files at all.

Griefing

S1G has managed to come up with many creative ways of griefing other players. Most of them involve attempting to get other players killed either by the level left in the bones file or the items that he drops upon death.

A list of his successful (managed to kill another player) and otherwise notable experiments in griefing is included here:

  • Filling early dungeon levels with monsters extremely dangerous to low level players.
  • Converting altars in temples which causes the aligned priest to attack any players who attempt to chat to him, usually for protection.
  • Leaving cockatrice corpses around magic traps, which have a chance to blind the player (and blind player characters must feel objects that are on the floor).
  • Leaving invisible and frusterating monsters on the level, such as rust monsters and blue jellies.
  • Filling entire levels with holes in the floor, which may be impossible to traverse depending on the items and capabilities the player has.
  • Naming fruits after highly desirable items.
