It's kind of boring that there's only a handful of comestibles in the game. there's a ton of foods that could be interesting to add, maybe with some neat effects. let's see what i can think of..

Coconuts could be fun. maybe make them an option to be #kicked from trees. they could fall in any adjacent square, and if you're not wearing a hard helmet and it lands on your square it could bonk you on the head for a point of damage and a single turn of stun. they'd take a few turns to eat since you have to crack them open.

Pouch of trail mix. decent nutrition to weight, and maybe gives a small speed buff for a little while. energy for hiking through the dungeon and all that. maybe even give it "charges". you eat a handful of mix, get your speed boost, but it cant be "Recharged" (because the bag is just empty)

Bananas could leave a peel in your inventory, which rots away after a while, but until then, you could drop it and if a humanoid (including you), walk over it, they slip and are stunned for 1 turn

Sausage. high nutrition/weight ratio, but non-blessed ones make your hands slippery. (because the non-blessed ones are cheapo ones :V )

Jerky: Very high nutr/weight, but very slow to eat.

Ginger root: Similar low nutrition like garlic/wolfsbane, but cures sickness. cursed ones do a point of damage to you, but still cure sickness (It burns!!)

Oyster: Slowish to eat since you have to pry it open, decent nutrition, small chance of also having a pearl inside! (would have to add a unique gem type that only spawns from oysters.) Vegetarians and vegans can #force the oyster open to check for a pearl without eating it.

Potion (?) of coffee. Appears in delicatessens as "Dark brown potion". small nutrition, sleep resistance for a couple thousand turns. cursed ones just have the small nutrition. (Decaf!?)

potato: Fairly high nutrition, cursed ones poison you.

Anyone else have some fun ideas? Doubt we'll ever see more food added, but you never know. it was fun to think about regardless. SeriousHex (talk) 03:31, 25 June 2024 (UTC)SeriousHex

Plenty of food items were added in variants. Notably SpliceHack has pumpkins which can be worn as a helmet. Similarly it would be fun to have a permafood which can be wielded as a weapon and enchanted, perhaps a baguette. —-Aximili (talk) 10:53, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
Building on the baguette- higher enchantments are inversely proportional to nutrition and directly proportional to the time it takes to eat? (flavored as the baguette going stale and rock-hard)
More multiuse food ideas: A pizza box shield with middling base stats but no/significantly less spellcasting penalties (random chance to have pizza inside with various random toppings or be empty, eating the pizza doesn't consume the box), a magical chocolate frog that can be applied like a figurine to turn into a tame chocolate frog monster, a black licorice whip (randomly gives either "Yecch! This tastes bitter!" or some more positive message when eaten), and a Humorously Large Chicken Leg (artifact?) you can wield as a club and can eat several times before it turns into a Humorously Large Chicken Bone. I wrote a patch for ice cream last year. Tomsod (talk) 17:39, 26 June 2024 (UTC)

Dwarf bread could fit, rather than the baguette since we know the devteam loves discworld. dropped by dwarves obviously, would be s-l-o-w to eat, but could be wielded and functionally identical to a club. SeriousHex (talk) 04:14, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
