I am trying to play as a cultist in vanilla NetHack, by making a priest and making him worship Posideon (the closest I could get to the Great Cthulhu). Is it cheating to restart characters again and again in hopes of getting Posideon? Is this like startscumming?

Slightly related, what is the flags I should set on the command line to make it instantly pick a chaotic human priest? (-foo -bar etc.)

(In the terminal foo@HAL:~$ nethack -bar...)

I'd say it's like startscumming for conduct purposes. Most players consider this to be a reasonable course of action, rather than cheating.

Also, append -pri-cha-hum to your username, as in nethack -u ais523-pri-cha-hum. (You might want to specify a gender, too, in order to have no prompts. Or you can just quickly press y at the prompt for a random gender.) Ais523 (talk) 15:42, 22 July 2015 (UTC)
