thanks for trimming up splichack pages! --Testbutt (talk) 23:13, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Quite welcome; happy to help! (I have somewhat of a "proofreader's eye" - I spot things like that just reading over the wiki pages...) -Actual-nh (talk) 00:10, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hi, Actual-nh! Welcome, and thanks for joining NetHackWiki!

  • The How to help and Style guide pages are excellent starting points.
  • Special:Recentchanges is a great first stop, because you can see what other people are editing right this minute, and where you can help.
  • Questions? Need help? You can ask at the Community Portal, the forum, or on the discussion page associated with each article! Just remember to sign those posts with four tildes: ~~~~. That will expand to create a signature.

You can put {{NAOplayer|NAO player account}} on your user page to link to your NAO player account. Capitalization matters.

We are really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!

This is an automated greeting.

Level entry messages

Most of the articles you've put in that category thus far are not actual messages tied to level entry - they are messages simply printed at random times when the player is on the same level as one of those features (for instance, the messages printed while on the same level as a shop). --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 05:53, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Thank you, I'll take a look at the code (probably tomorrow) to see which should be in that category. (The others should perhaps be in a "Special room indicator redirects" or something like that.) -Actual-nh (talk) 05:56, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Don't worry about it, I'll handle that part. Also not like you need to go source-diving for a single message or two - just playing a regular game (even in explore/wizmode) can clarify a lot of things message-wise. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 05:58, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! (I'm quite certain the "older, simpler world" is a level entry one...) -Actual-nh (talk) 06:07, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Advice

It might be wise to simply edit the whole page rather than go by section if you feel you're going to be making multiple changes - at the least it's a worthy habit to build so you can reduce the number of passes and actual revisions made to achieve the desired result. --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 05:04, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

What generally happens is that I think it's only going to be one part, but after I do that I spot other things... but yes, I'd like to try to do that. (It probably doesn't help that in Github reviewing of someone else's code changes, one has to do it a bit at a time.) -Actual-nh (talk) 05:25, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
OTOH, if two people happen to both be editing a page, it may reduce conflicts to be doing one part at a time (related to why Github reviewing is that way, I suspect). -Actual-nh (talk) 05:28, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, I totally get the feeling. I feel like just doing the edits all at once is a good idea to avoid edit conflicts incidentally - for me I try to occasionally check back if changes were made in the interim, but most times when I try to push a revision and get a conflict I didn't notice, it's not too much trouble to integrate the changes most of the time. Conflicts might not be completely avoidable, but the first method is probably the "safest". --Umbire the Phantom (talk) 05:33, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
