Name amulet of restful sleep
Appearance random
Base price 150 zm
Weight 20

The amulet of restful sleep is the only source of the restful sleep property.

Effects

When put on or eaten, you will fall asleep within 1 to 100 turns. You awaken within 1 to 20 turns or when disturbed. If you continue wearing the amulet, the cycle will repeat. Sleep resistance will not cure the condition, but prevents you from actually falling asleep.

Putting on and removing this amulet will remove the restful sleep intrinsic.

Generation

Amulets comprise 1% of all randomly-generated items in the main dungeon, 1% in containers, and 4% in Gehennom. There is a 13.5% chance that a randomly-generated amulet will be an amulet of restful sleep. This amulet is generated cursed 90.5% of the time, uncursed 9% of the time, and blessed .5% of the time.

Identification

If you notice yourself falling asleep, and have checked that it wasn't a monster's sleep attack or a sleeping gas trap, then the amulet is restful sleep.

Messages

Message Reason
"You fall asleep." You are wearing the amulet and have fallen asleep.
"You wake up." You have woken up.

If you have sleep resistance, you will never get any messages.

Strategy

This amulet has no good use. It's reasonably safe as long as you can take it off again, but is usually cursed. Like other harmful items, it can be saved for polypiling in the hope of turning it into something better.
