Blindness is an inability to see. Normally, blindness is temporary, and you can wait for it heal, or if you know how, you can cure blindness.

Sources of blindness include a potion of blindness, an attack by a yellow light or raven, an adverse effect from reading a scrollbook, eating rotten food, or getting hit by a cream pie.

Keystone Kops will throw cream pies at you, and you might throw some at monsters. The easy way to see again is to use the #wipe command, so do not waste a spell of cure blindess in that case. In contrast, #wipe is useless when a raven pokes out your eyes.

When you are blind, you cannot tell a monster's peaceful status which may lead to inadvertently killing a pet or peaceful.
