A chicken is a monster added in SLASH'EM. Feeding it vegan food may tame it. Contrary to what one might expect, they cannot lay eggs, and no eggs will hatch as chickens.
Strategy
While not a threat in and of itself, chickens share a glyph with the instadeath-causing chickatrice. Players should very careful not to mistake a chickatrice for a chicken, therefore. Note that they both tend to appear in small groups.
Chickens are hardly worth taming: they have low carrying capacity, are weak in combat and cannot grow up into anything better.
