The Dark One, @, is the Wizard quest nemesis. He is widely considered to be one of the easiest nemeses to defeat.
Strategy
The Dark One is not very difficult to kill. He usually carries the Eye of the Aethiopica and thus is magic resistant making cast spells like force bolt ineffective. Using magic missile is a better attack, though this monster can be killed without any spells. The Dark One is not immune to the wand of death.
Like most high-level teleporting monsters, he will try to escape when hurt in order to recover. Standing on the upstair prevents a possible escape.
His level allows teleport, so you can sneak attack him, grab the Eye of the Aethiopica after he teleports to the upstair, bag it, and teleport near to the upstair to allow you to unload with spells such as magic missile. Bagging the Eye is required because if you don't, he'll immediately steal it right back.
If one has teleportitis and cannot guard the upstair, a can be helpful in blocking the stair.
