Death is an event unambiguously marked by the message:

Death is also one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, residing on the Astral Plane and marked by a purple &, like major demons. Death's attack reduces your maximum hit points. Death always leaves a corpse, which will resurrect after time, or if you attempt to pick it up. Trying to teleport away Death or its corpse will cause it to resurrect (if dead) and be teleported next to you. Death's corpse cannot be tinned. Death is immune to death rays from a wand of death, and the touch of death.
