It just occurred to me to bash enemies with a bow in order to train my bow skill without jeopardizing ammunition, but I'm not sure if it actually works.
Code-diving will answer that one, but I can point out that bashing enemies with a dagger trains dagger skill and that's apparent when throwing them.
