Izchak

Izchak is a special shopkeeper who runs the lighting store in Mine Town. He has a slightly different conversational repertoire to other shopkeepers, but is otherwise identical for game purposes.

History

One of the founding members of the NetHack DevTeam was Izchak Miller. Sadly, Professor Miller passed away on the 1st of April 1994 at the age of 58, from complications due to cancer. The DevTeam put Izchak the shopkeeper into the game as a tribute, inspired partly by his sterling work on the shopkeeper code.

Etiquette

The community considers that is is extremely bad form to kill, injure, or steal from this particular shopkeeper, even though the we often badmouth and murder other shopkeepers at every available opportunity. Some people go so far as to suicide their characters if Izchak dies, even accidentally.
