A loadstone, cost 60, is not a desirable gem to have on your person. It is extremely heavy and becomes cursed upon picking it up, meaning you cannot drop it. The only way to get rid of it is to remove its curse somehow, by scroll or spell.

To test to see if a stone is a loadstone, kick it. Loadstones cannot be kicked under normal circumstances (unenhanced strength, not on ice, not with kicking boots).

The name loadstone is a pun on the word lodestone, a naturally magnetic mineral.
