Long swords are one of the more popular weapons to work with. They do scads of damage for their weight and they are one-handed, so they can be two-weaponed easily. They come in two varieties: A simple long sword which does d8 d12 for small and large monsters, and a katana, which does +1 to hit and d10 d12. Both of them are iron, and will rust/corrode. If you are Lawful and at least Level 5, you also have a chance to get Excalibur by #dipping a long sword into a fountain.
