At midnight to 00:30 UTC on October 2, 2006, the first test weekly scorefest was held on nethack.alt.org and coordinated on #nethack.

Objective

Acquire as high a score as possible within the given time limit.

Rules

  1. The starting time and ending time will be set out in advance.
  2. No games can be started before the starting time; this entails not pressing 'p' on the dgamelaunch menu until the appointed time.
  3. Your character must die before - or be unambiguously dead at - the ending time.
  4. You can play as many games as you want between the starting time and ending time; any games to be scored must meet the above criteria.
  5. The highest score achieved in a game that meets the above criteria shall be considered the winner. In the event of a tie, the game with the lower turn count shall prevail.
  6. A commentator shall be present in #nethack prior to the starting time and after the starting time; they will be responsible for determining the scores of all games played for the competition.
  7. The commentator, in collaboration with the organisers, may declare additional restrictions upon the round of games (e.g. must play random characters).
  8. When a score is called into question, the ttyrecs for the game shall be investigated to ensure the timestamps are consistent with the above criteria.
