Wearing a ring of searching gives you the searching extrinsic, which automatically searches the squares around you. As automatic searching is difficult to gain intrinsically, this ring can be useful. With help from this ring, you save time finding secret doors, and reduce the chances of blundering into traps.
Eating a ring of searching can give the automatic searching intrinsic.
