A shirt is the innermost piece of an adventurer's armor. Tourists will start out with a Hawaiian shirt, and t-shirts with humourous messages may be found in the dungeons; there is no difference between them in practice. If you go shopping when wearing a Hawaiian shirt and the shopkeeper sees it (ie, there is no body armor or cloak over it), he will charge an extra 1/3 markup and buy things for 1/3 of the base price. The only reason to get a shirt is for a few extra points of AC reduction.
