Their starting scalpel is a very poor weapon, and it is a good idea to replace it with the first noncursed dagger they find, going from orcish to normal to elven in that order, then later with a unicorn horn (with which they can achieve Expert skill).
A tool (or weapon) is as good as its applicator (or wielder). Healers are good with scalpels. They aren't even vaguely competent at the use of digging tools in anger.

- Ok, I have explicitly pointed out that Healers are reasonably good with daggers and completely hopeless with most big warrior weapons. Ekaterin 09:07, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
