A scroll of amnesia makes you forget spells too, right? 88.112.19.225 00:14, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Who is this Maud person anyway?

Just wondering... -- 86.152.193.91 16:53, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

  • See the Encyclopaedia entry in the article. It's from a fairly famous poem by a fairly famous poet... -- Kalon 00:12, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
    • I'd heard of the poet, but had never heard of the poem before NetHack. --Kahran042 01:44, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
  • That never even occured to me. I am shamed. Lord NAg 23:11, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

What does a blessed one do? The chart doesn't have an entry for it.

blessed un-confused is included in "cursed or not confused", therefore you forget all of the current level, on top of forgetting object identites. -Tjr 15:10, November 21, 2009 (UTC)

"... forget whether you are punished ..."

What exactly does that mean? Does your character forget it has an iron ball chained to him/herself? That doesn't seem like something you could forget, as you'd immediately notice it once you started walking again. Or did they mean your God's anger? Could someone explain what that bit means? -- Qazmlpok 23:13, December 6, 2009 (UTC)

I combed through read.c and ball.c to figure this one out and all I can conclude is that this is a TDTTOE. It only affects one bit mask - u.bc_felt - that acts when one uses look on a square with the ball or chain or tries to move the ball or chain. Being able to forget that one was punished only matters to an amnesiac blind punished player. Yes, first you have to be blind and punished and then you have to, somehow, read a Scroll of amnesia. Since it's impossible to read-test scrolls while blind, you have to already know the scroll you're reading is amnesia. The whole matter makes a little more sense after reading the ball.c source which likens handling the ball and chain to "messing with the hero's mind." --FJH 19:49, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

You have a sense of deja vu.

What does this message mean?
I had this message appear in my last game, and I think it means you went back to a level you forgot from amnesia, but I'm not sure. I searched it and it didn't appear in any of the 3.4.3 source files here, so I'm confused. --Uncreative Username 15:53, May 28, 2010 (UTC)
