== New game mechanic idea ==

First off, the only reasons I'm putting this in your talk page instead of on the forum are a.) the forum is using an archived extension to create new pages and as such cannot do that, and b.) someone told me you like to collect new ideas like this. On to the mechanic!

In SLEX, there's a nastytrap called the "muteness trap" which causes you to be unable to cast spells due to not being able to speak aloud. I then had the idea to take muteness and add a tool that makes you mute, but with a positive effect. After passively thinking about it, I came up with tape. There could be Scotch tape, packing tape, duct tape, and Flex Tape. Scotch tape is generated 75% blessed and 25% uncursed; packing tape is only uncursed; duct tape is equal chance of each beatitude, and Flex Tape is 75% chance cursed and 25% chance uncursed.

The positive effect of tape is that you can (usually) read and identify scrolls without using them, and thus not being affected by it. when reading a scroll while wearing any uncursed tape, there is a 12% chance that you use the scroll anyway, with a message like "The magic of the scroll forces your mouth to move against the tape." followed by the normal scroll reading messages. If the tape is blessed, the chance is reduced to 2%, and if cursed, the chance is upped to 50%. When taking off blessed tape, there is a 75% chance you take it off normally, but a 25% chance that you rip it off instead, dealing 2 damage. When uncursed, there is an equal chance of taking it off, ripping it off, and having it be stuck on your face. When cursed, there's a 99% chance that it's stuck on your face, but a 1% chance that you tear it off, dealing 15 damage. Every ten turns you spend wearing tape, it might fall off on its own (5% chance), falling on the floor. Finally, every time you put on or take off tape, there is a 15% chance that it lose its stickiness, fall off if you put it on, and turn into an "odd strip of material", which can be used as a blindfold. Odd strips of material cannot be generated randomly.

Feel free to use this, ignore it, change the percentages, do whatever with it. I just wanted it to be out in the world for other people to see, and maybe someone would implement it into their variant. --[[User:MetaNite64|MetaNite64]] ([[User talk:MetaNite64|talk]]) 16:14, 23 December 2019 (UTC)

Combat comment

I don't know if you noticed, but I did leave a comment on User talk:Phol ende wodan/Combat system overhaul. It's not a bunch of minor things, but seems to me a major (but likely fixable) problem. --Truculent (talk) 07:56, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

3.6.1 updates

I can use that template, sure, but I'm not certain whether my edits are complete, since I don't have the time or knowledge to do a full source dive. I'm just scanning the readme and Sourceforge commits and confirming what I can from the source. Should I wait until more users have had a look before updating the template? --Darth l33t (talk) 15:45, 28 April 2018 (UTC)

Nah, if that were the case the templates would never get bumped at all. If there are inconsistencies discovered later, someone can fix them, but the nethack-361 template indicates that someone has looked at it with an eye to 3.6.1. --Phol ende wodan (talk) 15:47, 28 April 2018 (UTC)

Orcus

I've made some further changes, particularly reordering things to be, well, closer to the way I had them. If you disagree please feel free to change them further, or we could discuss them here - I say here because if we do it on Talk:Orcus we'll have endless rambling interjections. Pinkbeast (talk) 14:18, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

One minor thing I'd add/change: it's better to mention digging as a way to get to the level below instead of levelporting, since this is generally a much more common resource. --Tone (talk) 15:10, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
I usually clear Gehennom upwards, so I suppose I think of that as the most common option (but on reflection that's just me). I've added the suggestion of digging down, though, since that's the easiest way to get from Orcustown to Orcustown+1. I should have thought of that; my mistake.
