A wand of nothing does absolutely nothing, whether zapped, engraved with, or when broken. Precisely, zapping it will ask you for a direction and release a beam of nothing, which does nothing, in the respective direction.
This makes it problematic to identify; the best method is to use a scroll or spell. Since the only other wand with base price 100, light, is very easy to identify, price IDing is another method to identifying a wand of nothing. It could also be identified by it's nonexistent engrave message, if all the other wands that share this property are already identified.
Generation
Wands comprise 4% of all randomly-generated items in the main dungeon, 6% in containers, 5% on the Rogue level, and 8% in hell. There is a 2.5% chance that a randomly-generated wand will be a wand of nothing.
