A wand of nothing does absolutely nothing, whether zapped, engraved with, or when broken, even though it will ask you for a direction when zapped.

This makes it problematic to identify. The best method is to combine engrave-testing with price-testing, or to use a scroll or spell. The only other wand with base price 100 is the light, which is very easy to identify, and safe to zap / engrave with. It could also be identified by elimination once the wands are known that produce no message when engraving.

Generation

Wands comprise 4% of all randomly-generated items in the main dungeon, 6% in containers, 5% on the Rogue level, and 8% in Gehennom. There is a 2.5% chance that a randomly-generated wand will be a wand of nothing.
