#wipe is an extended command used to wipe off your face (or face-equivalent) should you be blinded by a cream pie, blinding venom or applying a cursed towel.

Using #wipe is an occupation, that decreases the counter u.ucreamed by 4 each turn, so you can get the glob off in one quarter of the time it would take to wait it out, at the cost of beeing busy the whole time. An applied towel has the advantage of doing the same in one move, but #wipe has the advantage of being always available.

The #wipe command is neat if you get creamed in the early game, there your high armour class makes cream pies more likely to hit, and you don't have telepathy.

Once you have telepathy it is usually better, to simply wait the blinding out, and keep fighting, but monks and vegetarians who can't easily get intrinsic telepathy may find it handy more often. This is also aggravated by the fact that monks can't wear body armour and thus take longer to reach a decent AC. A towel is an useful item in that case, as it can unblind you in one move. It is also worth to note, that monks only reduce teir alignment record then they eat a floating eye, so as long your monk doesn't play an actual vegetarian conduct, pacifist conduct or is atemping a protection racket you don't have to worry about eating a floating eye.

Attempting to use this command when there is nothing to wipe off will result in the message, "Your face is already clean."

Though not related in the in-game sense, you can also wipe engraving in the dust by engraving over it with a towel.
